Another one bites the dust.

I've decided to move this blog to my own servers. So in a few hours, http://jerrywelch.name will be the new home of http://mylifeinrockwall.blogspot.com.

jerrywelch.name has always been forwarded to this Blogger Blog, but now will be the only way to direct yourself to my site.

Here's the links to the old posts covering the renaming history and some transom links:

Avery is so Unsavory

But did he deserve a suspension? Probably not ... people sure do get up in arms about it though.

Check out this drunken fool's rambling on how it's hockey's fault ...

Old-Time Hockey?

Old-Time Hockey?

The Stars are not off to a stellar start of the season. Saturday night’s game against Boston turned ugly, with Steve Ott and Sean Avery cruisin’ for a Bruins bruisin’. (Forgive me.) Mike Modano was not pleased, as Mike Heika reports:

“Tonight, it was idiotic and stupid,” Stars center Mike Modano said when asked what the team identity was. “It was one of the most embarrassing things I’ve seen. If that’s what we’re going for, then they need to find me an office job.”

The NYT’s hockey blog has more, including YouTube clips of cheap shots and glove drops.

I’ve always been a big Steve Ott fan, but this game really hurts. He should know that if you take that many shots at guys and play that physical of a game that you have to answer the bell at some point. It would’ve all calmed down if he would’ve dropped the mitts and started chucking knucks. That’s what the Bruins were after, they just wanted him to answer for some of his overzealous play. That’s hockey, you just have to do it.

I understand Ott not dropping the gloves with Thornton, the guy is huge and I give props to Barch for doing that. I even understand him not dropping them with Chara or Lucic, but letting Shane Hnidy deliver a beating to one of your young teammates because of you is totally unacceptable.

And Avery is seeming more and more like a cancer that is plaguing this impressionable young team looking for leadership. I hope Modano or Morrow can bring these guys together and get them back on the right track. Otherwise, it’s going to be a lonngggg season…

Modano never could take a hit. Boston and the Stars (North and South) have a great history of bludgeoning each other.

This epic battle set the NHL record for penalty minutes in a game. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ng-lRa0HKc

And who could forget this this 1970s beauty: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-85qLSvztnQ. Coach Reggie Dunlap could not have done it better.

Stanley Cup Playoffs - Biggest Seven Game Comebacks

So my Stars are in a deep hole against a Red Wings team that can seemingly score at will. All hockey knowledge aside, I am just the 13 year-old kid that remembers Mikey Mo getting drafted #1 and desperately watching my team try to get to Lord Stanley's Final.

OK - so hockey superstition rules and this is how I see it (which never works out but I don't care):

Besides the Boston RoidSox, only 2 other professional teams have come back to win a seven game series after being skunked 3-0. They are both NHL teams:

In 1942, the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Detroit Red Wings after being down 3-0 in the Stanley Cup Final!

In 1975, the New York Islanders manhandled the Pittsburgh Penguins after being down 3-0 in the Quarter-Finals.

There are 33 years separating those 2 come backs. There are 33 years separating 2008 from the last comeback. Is it in the ... Stars ... for the next NHL 3-0 comeback?

I'll be watching Wednesday to find out. Either way, what a great season! This team will only get better. Next stop ... Pittsburgh!

Summer is officially here.

So the Stars went out on a low point ... as a final kick in the pants before I get my summer amnesia on route to college football season, my Stanley Cup Final Home Game 1 tickets came in the mail today. Oh well - bust out the golf clubs and lawn chairs and enjoy watching Osgood get lit up by the you Pens (Crosby, Malkin, Staal and the likes.)

Anyhoo - the 33 year hope is dead, hockey will not waste any of my time until October and I've decided to re-purpose this blog and actually use it!

Today I plan to email some buddies and direct them here for recaps on our Mens Morning Mentoring breakfast talk. Whether it's just dudely topics that get noodled on while scatter shooting, prayer requests, scripture sharing ... whatever ... I'd like to capture our thought process as we grow in the fraternity of manship.

Stay wise ... Go Stars.
